ARENA2036
ARENA2036 e.V.

The Highly Agile Research Platform for the Mobility and Production of the Future

Technological change in the automotive sector is marked by versatile production processes, lightweight construction and Industry 4.0. Versatile production methods of the future together with smart, functionally integrated, multi-material, lightweight construction solutions are key factors for developing and implementing a sustainable Industry 4.0 and for shaping technological change. The ARENA2036 Research Campus (Active Research Environment for the Next Generation of Automobiles) is addressing these aspects and conducting research into the vehicle production of tomorrow.

ARENA2036’s partnership structure is one of the decisive factors for realizing the most diverse projects and pursuing new research ideas. Partners in ARENA2036 are the University of Stuttgart, non-university research institutions, large companies and small and medium-sized enterprises. All of them are active in various disciplines ranging from the automotive industry, aerospace technology and textiles to materials and labour research. This means that various specialist perspectives and approaches come together and complement one another at ARENA2036. Individual pools of competence can be established as required, adding partners with the corresponding know-how to answer unresolved research questions.

In the long term, the experiences and findings of the research campus will be communicated through lectures and presentations and benefit teaching programmes and the training of young researchers. The research campus is developing a series of lectures, conferences and study courses for this purpose.

The research projects and activities of the research campus are taking place at the high-tech research factory situated on the university campus in Stuttgart-Vaihingen. The factory was built in 2016 and covers an area of 10,000 square metres. ARENA2036 has emerged as a unique high-tech centre in the heart of the industrial and vehicle manufacturing region of Baden-Württemberg. Its ambition is to become one of the major research platforms worldwide. The development of this new kind of thinking and working environment is intended to encourage creativity and cooperation on the part of everyone involved. The research campus aims to establish a versatile production site of the future for smart, functionally integrated, multi-material, lightweight construction solutions by 2036, the 150th anniversary of the invention of the car.
