Germany's cities are promoting the changeover of their commercial transport system to emission-free vehicles. However, the transformation into electromobility also requires new charging infrastructures. By launching a bidirectional fast charging station (150 kW) on April 12th 2018, the Mobility2Grid Research Campus started a pilot project on the EUREF site in Berlin-Schönefeld, which could soon be put into real life.

FEN Research Campus will implement a local medium-voltage (MV) grid which is exclusively based on direct current (DC). This underground demonstration grid will operate as a private grid within the infrastructure of RWTH Aachen University. As part of a groundbreaking ceremony on March 19, 2018 the official beginning of the construction works was initiated.

800 guests from politics, science and industry participated in the opening of the research factory ARENA2036. In the new building, the partners of the research campus develop visions and solutions for the research areas of production and work as well as mobility of the future in the context of digitisation. State Secretary Dr. Georg Schütte highlighted the impact of an own research campus building for cooperation between business and science.

InfectoGnostics (Jena) and M²OLIE (Mannheim) are seeking collaborations across research campuses. At the beginning of February 2018, the two research campuses discussed the possibility of joint scientific cooperations in a workshop; for example, the combination of different photonic methods in surgical diagnostics or the automation of tests for the determination of antibiotic resistance were discussed.
